Home Visits-Childbirth, Childcare, and Breastfeeding

I will do 1-2 hour home visits in the day, evening, and on weekends for childbirth, childcare, and breastfeeding information, teaching skills, and nursing assessment.

Childbirth session includes relaxation skills, birth options, postpartum tips,and handouts-childbirth guides.

Childcare session includes bathing, diapering, nutrition,  parenting tips,and handouts-child care guides.

Breastfeeding session includes basics of breastfeeding, feeding positions and methods, nutrition and herbs, problem solving, pumping information, and handouts-breastfeeding guides.

Cost is $20 an hour.  Cash only as payment.
A receipt will be given for insurance/ tax reimbursement.

Breastfeeding Class

I teach breastfeeding classes every month at my home in Vancouver, WA.  The class is 3 1/2 hours. This class is for Moms and anyone who wants to learn about breastfeeding. The class includes the Laws, Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, breastfeeding basics, feeding positions, feeding methods, nutrition, herbs, common problems, going to work or school, pumping, storing breast milk, starting solids, and community resources. Information is taught using a PowerPoint presentation, DVDs, discussions, items to show, and handouts given to each mom. Practice skills is done using dolls for feeding positions. Partner or Support Person are welcome to attend.  

Seeking DONA approval for Doulas.  Certificate of Attendance will be given, if requested.
Receipt will be given for insurance reimbursement, if requested. 

Cost is $20.

Next classes:  Last Saturday of the month from 2:00 - 5:30 p.m.

             If a holiday or family event, then on the another Saturday.

Breastfeeding Teaching Skills for Beginning Professionals

I teach a 4 hour class at my home in Vancouver, WA. This class is good for the beginning Professional who wants to teach Moms about breastfeeding and to learn about various tools used for teaching in various settings. Class includes the Laws, Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative topics, Surgeon General's Call to Action, breastfeeding basics, feeding positions, feeding methods, nutrition, herbs, common problems, going to work or school, pumping, storing breast milk, and community resources. I use PowerPoint, DVDs, tri-fold, white board, discussion, hands-on skills using dolls, handouts, and lots of items to show to parents the activities and information.
Teaching skills given from skills that I learned from Dixie Whetsell, IBCLC, RLC, PCC Lactation Management Instructor; Karla Nussbaum, IBCLC and Rachel Martinez, IBCLC, NMC of Oregon; Heather Curtis, MPH, RD, IBCLC, Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital Lactation Services; Teri Shelling, LCCE, IBCLC, Passion For Birth; and Jesse Henderson, LCCE, IBCLC, Mother Tree Birth Services.

Certificate of Completion and Attendance will be given, if requested.  Seeking DONA approval for Doulas at this time.

Cost is $30. 

Classes are twice a year, on the first Saturday of the month, from 2-6 p.m.

Childbirth Education


I teach a 5 day class Childbirth series on Pregnancy Care, Labor Skills, Natural Childbirth, Birth Options, Interventions, Postpartum Care, and Newborn Care. The information is on Evidence-Based Maternity Care Practices and mostly based on the Lamaze (R) 6 Healthy Birth Practices. Lamaze is a registered trademark of Lamaze International. I teach both Lamaze and Bradley childbirth techniques. I teach Private and Group classes. Private class is tailored to the Mom's needs. Group classes have 3 couples maximum. The class series is for any woman who is around 28-36 weeks of pregnancy.

 In the 5 day series, the 1st class is about Pregnancy Care. The 2nd class is about Natural Labor and Vaginal Delivery. The 3rd class is about Complications, Interventions, and Medications. The 4th class is about Postpartum and Newborn Care. The 5th class is Child Nutrition and Breastfeeding. In all the classes, I talk about Natural Childbirth Skills, Options, Relaxation Methods, Support, and Nutrition.  I also teach about Water Birth. I teach about benefits and risks to interventions and medications and alternatives to them.  I teach using a PowerPoint presentation, discussions, DVDs, handouts, product samples, items to see, and lots of interaction and practice of coping and labor skills. Practice childcare and breastfeeding skills using dolls.

Any Group class is $60 a couple or Private class series cost $75. 
 
Taking a single class is $30.

Charge is for 2 people. Materials given will be at no extra charge.
The handbook: The Prepared Childbirth-The Family Way is given to each Mom.
Receipt for Insurance/Tax Reimbursement and Attendance Certificate given to each Mom.
 Please bring a pillow to class.
Support person encouraged to attend.


The classes will be held at my home in Salmon Creek,Vancouver, WA.

Classes series are  5 days every month on Saturdays and Sundays, except Holidays.  

 Classes 1-3 are from 2 to 6 p.m.   Class 4 and 5 are from 2 pm to 5:30 pm.
